TEDxJLHS Youth - Calling for Panelists!

Are you a high school student bursting with ideas and ready to make your mark on the world? We are thrilled to announce an incredible opportunity tailored just for you! Introducing the TEDx JLHS Youth event, where young minds like yours will take the stage to share their unique perspectives and ignite conversations about the future of STEM.

We believe in the power of youth to shape the future, and this event is your chance to be part of an extraordinary movement. Are you passionate about a specific topic? Do you have an innovative solution to a global issue? Whether it’s science, technology, engineering, or math, your voice deserves to be heard.

As a panelist, you’ll have the incredible opportunity to inspire and empower others with your ideas. Join a community of like-minded high schoolers who are driving change, and together, let’s redefine what’s possible.

Rules and Guidelines for panelists

In line with our mission to encourage more women to enter and pursue STEM fields, we are focusing our TEDx talk on STEM to elevate the voices of fellow high schoolers in our community. Panelists should choose from one of the three topics to focus their speech on:

  • Personal story: personal experience with STEM
  • Advocacy: social issues in STEM
  • Educational: interesting subject/development in STEM

We are looking for 20-30 speakers to be featured as part of our panelists. As part of our commitment to promoting gender diversity, we will be giving priority to female and nonbinary speakers who share our goal and will contribute meaningfully to our conference. By showcasing their achievements, we aim to inspire young girls and encourage their participation in STEM. However, we do encourage everyone who is interested in being a speaker to apply to be a panelist regardless of gender.

Speeches should be 10-15 minutes long, and there should be no political, pseudoscience, religious, or commercial Talks presented from the TEDx stage. All speeches should be centered around one of the three topics mentioned above.

Who can apply?

We are looking for high schoolers between the ages of 14-18 to be featured as a part of our panelists. We are accepting high schoolers from any high school in California (not limited to James Logan High School students). All selected panelists should be able to attend the conference in person. We will not be providing an online option for presenting speeches.

How can I apply to be a panelist?

1. Choose a topic (from the three provided above) to center your speech around. You have the freedom to choose any specific topic you would like to speak about, but the general idea must be categorized into one of the three topics.
